Last minute stereo removal tips

Changing out my head unit tonight after I get the kiddos to bed. Any last minute tips? 2001 model. Thanks!

With 01 I dont think it had the amp option it should make it pretty straight forward. Im assuming its an aftermarket so you should have gotten a harness adapter and pre wired the unit. Then right behind the front window you have to take off the defrost vent cover its either 2 or 4 screws I believe mine are long gone. Be careful prying it up its pretty easy. After thats off the stereo surround has like 2 screws on top. Your going to have to take your Jeep out of park to get it out of the or shifter if its in the way mines an auto I dont know about a manual. After that there are 4 screws holding the radio in take em out. Pull the unit out unclip the harness from the back might be kinda tight also pull out the antenna.

You will have to have an adapter for the antenna as well. Plug your antenna into its adapter and the harness into its adapter. Stuff it all in there and reverse the procedure.

Thanks for the tips! I got a really late start and only ended up getting my wiring harness completed. Hopefully get the rest done today. You mentioned amp. My jeep has the factory sub so is there an amp for that? Does that change my wiring? Thanks

There are two wires tapped off behind the dash. For an amp? Any clue? Do I need those hooked up too?

Well I have the amp as well I cant remember give me a minute I will go look at it. As far as a couple being capped off dont know one could be a dimmer comtrols some aftermarkets have it some dont.

Are you switching from a factory to an aftermarket. Or an aftermarket to a different aftermarket. Also whats kind and model number of unit are you installing.

After looking at it I had 2 capped off one was cominf from the after market radio connector that goes in to the unit its was the mute foe a handsfree. The other was coming from the adapter harness and it was an antenna wire which if you have one it raises and lowers your antenna when you turn the key. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. I do remember having trouble when I first got my Jeep with my old unit. I think Ive gotten a new adapter since then though.

If you havent which you probably have just install see what happens Id say. My issue originally was I had no sound the unit was on and working. With my adapter it has I'll say a jumper going from ground to the slot below it which grounds the factory amp. Then it has another jumper where the ignition turn on wire which then sends power to the factory amp when you turn the key on. I think my old adapter didnt have those jumpers.
