Installed a 50 inch LED bar today with the Poison Spyder mounts and the Genssi wiring harness. I used an aftermarket factory looking switch, wire and install overall were not too bad.
The big question I have is whether there's any reason why the switch would stay on while the car is off? The wiring is pretty basic - lights from wire to relay, have power going to battery and ground, and then wiring to the switch. I'm nervous that this little light being on will draw power while car is off - have trouble starting?
Appreciate any information anyone has. Also, a quick preview of the light - can't tell you guys how bright this thing is. Worth every penny.
The light on the switch should only be on when the switch is turned on.
Three should be 3 terminals on the back of the switch, power in and out, and a ground (I think that is how those switches are, been a while...)
Sounds like you might have one backwards...
That's what I read somewhere else but I don't see how. White to white, black to black, only different is the aftermarket switch I used has a red wire instead of blue?
Why did you cross post? It really benefits no one when you post the same thing at about the same time in two forums. It just puts answers in two different places. Plus, someone may put time and effort into answering your question here, only to find out that someone else already properly answered your question there.
:atomic:
Sounds to me like you wired from a constantly hot power source to the switch, rather than a source that is only hot when your ignition is in ON position.
Just a side note. I sold quite a few LED lights over the years. This seems to be a regular problem. You can't always go by wire color alone when hooking them up. The manufacturer usually states in the instructions what color goes where. Sometimes they put flags on the end of the wires to tell you this.
A regular bulb don't care about what way it's hooked up. If you switch the wires positive and negative it will still light up. An LED light will not do this. You must get the polarity correct for it to light up.
