Loose Door Handle

My 98 TJ's passenger side exterior door handle it loose. I already took off the panel once, only to be greeted by a metal plate that I cannot take off. Does that mean that they are aftermarket doors? And if so, how do I fix the loose handle?

Mine is loose too, but it still opens and locks fine. Happened right after i bought it. i think it might be a spring that came off/broke. I've been meaning to take off the inner panel and see if i can fix it. curious to see how you fix yours.

Yeah just did some research, mine is aftermarket. I really don't want to have to bring it to a shop!

I don't think it's a spring, the handle you pull works fine. It's the whole plastic square that pulls out about half an inch every time I open it

I think the outer handle is held on by 2 bolts, I can't remember but its not hard to get to just a few phillips head screw and you can see the in side not hard at all
