lost oil

so last night i changed the oil in my TJ. I noticed I did not get enough used oil out. There is the odd drip from it but nothing that could explain the kind of oil loss i appear to have. any suggestions where to start looking? anyone else consuming oil and how much?

Its a 97 2.5L and i run semi synthetic high milage oil.

So what does your dipstick say after adding 4 new qts? I would just keep and eye on it via the dipstick in a few days. If the level is full, check it again a few weeks.

Regarding the oil drip, a fairly commonly known leaky area on the 2.5L is at the valve cover and the firewall. The cover bolts tend to loosen over time and probably need to be torqued back down. The bolt next the the firewall is a little bit of a pain to get to, but its doable.

I have a 98 with no oil consumption over the 3000 miles between changes. It has 111,000 miles on it.
