HI all,
Just purchase a customized inside and out 97 TJ, lifted, off road 33's, custom roll cage, cb radio, the works.......so excited driving it home and then I pull up to the Garage and I am about an inch to high to pull in....bummer! It has a 8 inch lift on it.
I tried to add a pic of my jeep but maybe because I just created my online profile it is not letting me yet.
My question: is it possible to have a shop lower a lift a couple inches...I.E. taking out parts of the current lift kit to lower? or do I need to purchase an expensive kit to do so?
Would only need to go down 2 inches.
thanks all, go easy on me, first post and new to the Jeep world...pumped though!
8 inch lift with 33's? You gotta post up pics. Seriously, 8 inches of lift has no practical purpose at all. Drop it down to 4 or 4 1/2 with those 33's.
I know....I tried to post pics...Jeep Forum won't let me yet I guess.
any thoughts on my question?

previous owner said it was 8 inches...I just bought it. I do have to use the step to get it.....I was able to put some pics under my jeep profile.

Yeah, that's up there. Is it all suspension lift or does it have a body lift too (looks like it does but hard to tell from that pic)? If it has a body lift you could probably have that removed if that would get you the clearance you need.
Here's your pic btw.
I prefer to use a site like photobucket, it's easier.
thanks Jeff....wish I knew if it had a body lift....any clue how I could tell?
If it is costly to lower I may just have to deal with it being parked out in the driveway..I live in CT which is why I wanted to garage it...especially for the winters.
This is my first customized/off road vehicle so I don't know much about it bought it to keep the mileage down on my Newer car and just just plain have fun with. Thought the Jeep would be perfect.
Judging by the front sway bar, I don't think it has much of a bl. Prob only an inch or so. The pic of the lift block or puck looks identical to my Daystar body bushing kit with the extra 1.25 inches molded into the design
good call...I can flip that around this weekend.
The guy I bought it from must have rhino painted it with the bumper off and then put on upside down....I'll fix that this weekend.
I took some pics of the shocks and where the puck for a body lift would be...I don't think it's a body lift it just seems like the rubber that is probably stock?
Is this something that can be lowered easily or take lots of money....I'll just deal with the no garage if costly.
front springs from top coil to bottom was 18 inches!
back spring from top coil to bottom was 14 inches! Is that crazy high?
What's most cost effective solution? Just forget about it and keep as is?
It drives well on flat surfaces, no death wobble at 65 or anything, bouncy as hell when hitting bumps, off road going slow, etc...
Fun to drive for sure.
Only other problems I am noticing is the heat is only coming through the defrosters and not main vents....didn't pay a lot for it and not trying to make it a money pit...so i may just keep as is if costly to lower.
it comes to where you have adjustable stuff. control arms, track bars, sway bar links, etc
is there a transfer case drop? SYE and CV driveshaft?
you could throw 4" springs on it, but if you dont have adjustable arms, your pinion angles will be off. if you dont have adj track bars, your axles wont be centered. then it comes down to those shocks, would need to find out what their maximum extended and collapsed lengths are and see if they are too big.
there are a ton of variables, as you can see. so there isnt a simple answer.
the more pics we have the better we can direct you
For now to just get it into the garage, could you let some air out of the tires? Or depending what is hitting your garage door frame, drop the softtop or fold the windshield down?
