Here's the problem, some screws wouldn't cooperate. So I pretty much tore the plastic out that was stuck between the metal piece that the screw threads into. And now I'm left with this.
Impact gun, re-threading, etc. is a lost cause... The screw heads are practically gone from my impatience. What's the next step to get these things off?
I used a dremel with a cut off disc. Grab the head of the bolt with vice grips and pull up, or push it up from the bottom and get the cut off disc under the head. Should remove enough to break the bolt with vice grips. I marked the bumper in a few places during the process, but was planning to paint them anyway.
Why not go a step farther and chop your bumper down a bit so on your approach your tires will hit first, it looks even cooler, you can even cut on an angle like many aftermarket bumper designs? Then you don't worry about bolts?
Those same style clips are what holds the radiator to the body. I had a similar problem and sprayed with PB then used vice grips to hold the nut-like portion of them. Worked okay for me. If you're not in a hurry hit them with PB blaster and let it really soak in a couple days. If they were over torqued though the threads can get easily trashed in which case I'd take a dremmel cutting wheel to them. Or go to lowes, buy the smallest bolt cutters you can find if you dont have a set, clip em in the parking lot and go straight back into lowes and return them. I use their free tool rental program all the time..
My dad backed into my jeep with his Mercedes. Knocked one of the jugs off lol. I kicked the other one off and then just left most of the screws in there. I don't care enough at the moment to remove them. Maybe in the future. But the lesson learned here is, jeep-1 Mercedes-0
Mine were rusted out pretty bad. I just took my saws-all and just cut them off and then did cut around the outline of the bumper to remove the screws and the rest of the jugs. I'm really good with a saws-all and never scratched the bumper. I don't recommend doing it that way though
