More Gear Questions

Can i go to 4.56 ratio with the D30/35 set up, if so where is good place to purchase them? Oh yeah, currently running 33" x 12.50's. One more question: how much will it improve gas mileage? Thanks

Send a message via AIM to debruins
it will only improve ur gas mileage if you drive around town a lot, if will decrease ur highway gas mileage
an yes that will work

You can go up to 4.88 with that combo.

Have the shop that installs your gears provide all the gears, bearings, etc. because if YOU provide the parts and something goes wrong during or after the installation, the shop will blame the parts you provided. Then you'll be stuck in the middle as the parts dealer blames the installer and the installer blames the parts. And even if you could convince the parts dealer to replace them under warranty, you'll have to pay the installer to swap them out because, remember, he blamed the parts and not his installation procedure for the problem. But if the installer provides everything, then he is responsible for everything... parts and labor... if something goes wrong which can and does happen with some R&P installations. One of my two R&P installs ended up with a bad ring gear 2 weeks later and my shop took care of everything no questions asked.

Besides, you can generally get the installer to discount the actual cost of the gears because his main profit comes from his labor. If you're currently running those 33" tires on the original gearing, then yes you may see a slight improvement in fuel economy by regearing to 4.56. Don't let anyone talk you into 4.10 for 33" tires.

4.0L - I am unfamiliar with the super 35? Cost is always an issue so keep that in mind.

Jerry - excellent feed back, thanks. What about the 4.88's mentioned above, overkill?

The super 35 upgrades the stock carrier with a locker like a detroit, arb or ox and replaces the stock 27 spline shafts with stronger 30 spline shafts. It's a little pricy but if your doing gears thats the time to do it if you want to keep the d35 and make it stronger.

4.88 is to much for the 33's that would be for 35's. You have a 5 speed right? I was saying you can do a max of 4.88.

A little extra gear doesn't hurt. Get as much gear as you can swallow.

I've seen that little 4 banger crawl places my I6 had trouble with.

I think it all depends onwhat type of wheelin you like to do. if its for any sort of rock crawling then get the lowest you can. I had 5.13s when I was still on 31" tires. I miss that crawl. took off like a corvette too. well not really that fast

His point is with a 4.0 going any lower than 4.56 with tires any smaller than 35s would be a bad thing considering he is wondering about fuel mileage.Yes you can go lower than 4.56 but with a 4.0 and apparently a DD he would not want to.IMO

Nope, just the rear, Quick/Cheap fix to get me back on the road. Next year I'll go bigger. I def want to run 35's in the future, but thats a thread for next year. New gears(maybe axles), a real susp. lift and 35's. And a whole lot more!

and my point was why did he throw out the 4.88 comment if he knew he had a 4.0.

I said he could go up to 4.88 with those axles ie if he wanted 35" tires I didn't say that 4.88 were right for his 33's I simply said he can go to 4.88's if needed.

I'm the one that doesn't get it. What are you trying to prove. I simply said he can go to 4.88's never said that was what he needed.
