motor help

I have a 98 wrangler that is in real good shape , other than the motor it is a 2.5 liter , recently i have noticed that there is a knock when it is started up , after it warms up it is quieter , i am not sure if it is piston slap or rod knock , or the bearings are getting worn , my question is what do i do , replace the motor, or rebuild what i have , the motor has 160,000 miles and am considering a new motor what does everyone think ? Thanks

I know that you can get the auto trannys CHEAP for them from places like Auto Zone, so it makes me wonder how affordable a whole new motor would be from them. I'd suggest the new engine because you'll probably get a warranty with it, and it'll save you a few phone calls and running around if you can just buy one thing rather than having the motor all gone through and paying to have everything replaced. Plus, it turns a "pull motor, wait, take to shop, wait, pick back up, wait, install motor" job, into a nice weekend project of just swapping them out for one another.
