MOTOR SWAP from a 4cyl to a 4.3 GM

I am thinking about pulling my 4 banger out and putting in a 4.3 GM V6 out of 93 Astro Van I will have the complete wiring harness out of the van I guess my question is how hard is this gonna be can you give some vendors that I may have to use to make this engine swap as smooth as possible.

Best I can recall....the 4.3 and the 5.7 GM V8 share the same motor mounts and much of the geometry. I suppose you say a 4.3 out of a 93 Astro because that's what you have.

My suggestion? Leave the 4.3 in the astro....sell the astro, take the money and buy a 350 to drop in there (and buy a conversion kit) OR...replace your existing 4 banger.

You are going to have to fab motor mounts, relocate your radiator, re plumb your exhaust etc. etc... Getting your transmission right is even going to be a pain. Then you need to look at axles and if they can handle the additional HP of the chevy 6. Oh yeah... did I talk about springs? Power steering?

I can get a 350 for cheap I just thought the 4.3 would be easier to install because of the wiring harness that came with it just thought it would be alot less painless to install where can I get the wiring harness for a 350? any ideas?

I have had both the 4.3 and the 350 in my life the 350 was in a 76 pickup the 4.3 was in a 89 S-10 Blazer, and I dunno about the rest of the lot, but the 4.3 I had had as much power as the old 76 350.

If you were going to swap a 6 cylinder in I would swap a 4.0 in. They are bullet proof and way more reliable than the 4.3,( I no because I had a blazer). Don't get me wrong, there both nice engines, but inline engines have more torque.

If you are clueless as you say: You got two options: You can put another four in (the safe and cheap way) going to give you the least hassles. Or you can GO FOR IT and stuff a 350 in there. My belief is that the 350 even with a 100% complete conversion kit...is going to cause you to do stuff like break axles and cause other problems that you have not anticipated. I realize you probably have a readily available 4.3 sitting there for free.... but I promise you it can't be free enough to save you any money. Now if somebody is paying you $1k to take it off their hands.... you might could do alright.
