Muffler replacement

i was just curious, i want to replace my stock muffler for no other reason than i would like it to sound better. i was wondering if anyone else has replaced just the muffler and if so what dimensions would i need? also its
2.25" in and out and i need offset correct?. any help would be nice.

yeah its a 2.25" pipe and is a center inlet and offset outlet. some people like the flowmaster but i like the sound of the banks. their cat-back system raises the size of the pipe to a 2.5" pipe for both the inlet and outlet, its also a straight through muffler.

easy install great sound, adds a few HP, better throttle response and better gas millage. for the price of a cat-back there really isn't that much of a difference, only reason i got one is because i got a damn good deal.

I had a Flowmaster 50 on my last 4.0 and I liked it. Not too loud, but not stock. I did a lot of other mods at the same time so I can not say on power or mileage.

yeah good point. Can anyone explain the difference between a cat back system and a muffler. Cat back is just everything after the cat, so muffler and tailpipe and muffler is just a muffler. is that correct? and what is better in your opinions?

A muffler is exactly that, just a muffler. You will need to splice and put it into the rest of the tubing. A Cat back will be a bolt on from the cat all the way to the tailpipe. No welding or clamps required and if you are lucky the pipe will be mandrel bend so it is the same diameter even on the bends of the exhaust tubing.

If i may make a suggestion. Go with a Magnaflow muffler. I love mine its got a nice deep tone sounds great at WOT and is still nice and quiet while cruising with no drone. I tried a Flowmaster for a bit but it became annoying on the trails.

i like the fact that the banks is all stainless, and the bends are all mandrel bends.

I am also running the banks cat back and love it. Its got a nice tone cruising, and pretty loud if you really hit the gas

i have questions about mufflers can you flip them meaning can a center inlet offeset outlet be flipped around to the opposite. and are there connectors or anything, say i get a 2.5" to make it into a 2.25 if that makes sense

I have a Dynomax turbo I'll sell you firefighter.... $50+ shipping. It's a year old, sounds better than stock, nothing wrong with it, but I want a Flowmaster, I like a bit louder exhaust than I have with the Dynomax. They are good mufflers, I've had 4 of 'em and love them on my V8's... just this one is a bit too tame for my tastes.

I personally wouldn't recommend it. I have an O/I C/O at the moment because the muffler company sent me the wrong one. When I tried to line it up just to see if it would work and it became more of a hassle than it was worth. If you buy a Dynomax cat back system they will give you a 75$ rebate at the moment. I bought mine @ www.streesideauto.com for $147 shipped to my door. After the rebate it is 72$ total. Now all I have to do is bolt it on. Not bad for an easy swap.

I found the dynomax rebate form online but it says offer good only at participating locations. Would streetsideauto.com qualify??? If so I see that the cat back system is currently only $132.19 shipped. After a $75 rebate you are looking at a $57.19 cat back system. That sounds like a deal to me!

In my opinion, If you can hear the exhaust the muffler needs replacing.

If you want to impress Jr High kids, use STP stickers, they won't disturb the peace.

hearing the exhaust acually help ppl to learn standard, they tend to hear the difference in when the clutch is engaging and disengaging, thats my opinion and iknow it works cuz ive taught several ppl how to drive in cars with exhausts and they said it was easier. but ill try not to disturb the peace next time..

After all the talk.. I spent a while watching youtube videos on the dynomax and I just ordered mine from streetsideauto! I'm excited!

Is it a simple install? I have a 6 inch lift so i'm assuming that will make things easier!?!

im hesitant on buying exhausts because i dont know how they actually sound. i want it to be throaty but not crazy loud like a cherry bomb. i want it to sound like a jeep not a diesel truck. how does the dynomax cat back rate up against my thought?
