My 2000 4.0 sounds like it has a TURBO charger installed. What would cause this nois

It's a 2000 model. Love the TJ. I've owned three of them. All have been 4.0 models. But for some reason this one is a lot faster than the others. No don't get me wrong, I race corvettes and such and KNOW the darned thing doesn't have a turbo installed. But it sounds just like it does. it sounds like it spools up when I give it throttle. The sound is so prevelant that I've actually had kids with fart can hondas look over at me thinking dammmmmmm dudes running forced induction on a jeep.
Lately the jeep has also had some very minor running issues. The throttle feels funny. IE: Let off the gas and it keeps up for like a half second.

Are these related? What can I do about this sound?

5 speed. As far as I know it's stock. But it's faster than the other three TJs I've owned. Can you tell by this picture?

If your fan clutch locks too soon or never unlocks it can sound like that.

The high idle delay - clean the IAC, then disconnect the battery for a few hours, like overnight (no, not a quickie, you aren't just clearing codes.)
When you hook the battery back up drive it a few miles.

Looks like your filter could use a cleaning also.

Don't want Jerry to come by....

I'd put money on it being the intake system. Mine does it too and people have asked me about it before. I have a spacer and a AEM air intake system on mine. I'm going to take out the spacer sometime but haven't gotten around to testing.

So the spacer int he picture is not stock? It's definately not the fan. It would make sense that if the spacer is not stock that it may be the culpret.

I love the air filter picture. Yes, I'll get it cleaned today. You guys sure that spacer is not stock? I don't want to remove something that it may need. And how do I clean the IAC?

Thanks

There are NO spacers used stock. If your TB isn't bolted straight onto the intake manifold then you prob have one. They are generally a ~ 1" block of colored aluminum.

So is thast red thing a spacer? Guess I'll need to go out and buy the proper size bolts if I plan on going back to stock. Anyone know the measurements / demensions of these bolts?

Yes that red thing is indeed a throttle body spacer but trust me on this, it doesn't help with performance or fuel economy even .01% when installed under the type of throttle body the TJ has which passes only air through it, no gas. Spacers can do wonders under carburetors and the older style throttle body injection (TBI) TBs but not under the TJ's throttle body. Some spacers do cause a whistle and that does seem to make some people think their engines got more powerful which is strictly a great example of the placebo effect at work.
