My A/C

Whelp, it's the dead a$$ middle of summer here in Jax, FL and of course my a/c decided to take a dive.

Im thinking there is a leak somewhere but dont see anything, but I dont really know what Im looking for.
It blows warm air with a/c on. I charged it with a bottle of R134a from the auto store and it goes cold for a few mins after that, then hot again. If im driving and I turn the a/c off for a few mins and then back on, its gets cold again for about 30 seconds, then hot again.

I can see the compressor pulley turning and the comp clutch engages and turns as well.

So what should I be looking for as far as a leak? Or could it be something else? Thanks!

First off all ditch that crapy little can from autozone and if you want to do it yourself and get a set of gauges. Does the compressor even run? If it's really low the compressor will not turn on at all. A set of gauges will let you see if it's all the way empty or not if it's really low or empty then you have a leak and it could be in the evap, condensor, hose or just could be a o ring. If there is a leak once you fix it you need to evacuate it (pull a vacume on it) Then you can go about filling it to the proper specs.

[QUOTE=4.0l sahara;245020]First off all ditch that crapy little can from autozone and if you want to do it yourself and get a set of gauges. Does the compressor even run? If it's really low the compressor will not turn on at all.

I have the gauge that came with the can (yea its a piece). The compressor looks like its running, i can see the clutch engaging and it turns on for about 5 seconds, then off for about 7-8 then on again for 5 and so on. while thats happening, the gauge is moving back and forth, getting higher when the comp is off and back down again when it kicks on.

all that happens until I start putting the refrigerant in then the comp will start to stay on for longer and longer and the gauge will start to even out.

now I had an 18 oz can that was probably about half used and i put the rest of that in. would it need more than that? is it possible i just didnt put enough in? how much is usually needed?

When i say gauges i mean gauges that read both high and low sides. Sound like a big leak.
