How mechanically inclined are you?
Clutches aren't too technically difficult but they take a bit of umph and cursing to do in a driveway.
First check your linkage and hydraulic line to make sure nothing is missing, broken or leaking. Make sure the reservoir is full. If all that checks out then you'll likely have to pull the tranny to replace the pressure plate, throw out bearing, throw out bearing arm and possibly the clutch plate depending on what you find.

The squealing and suddenness of the problem tend to make me think throw out bearing or arm.

Agree with Skeeter. Most likely the throw-out bearing. 4x4xplor has a good write up on changing out your clutch

I agree with skeeter but I have never seen a throw out bearing make you not shift a vehicle. Mine is gone now and it still works just fine. I have also never seen anybody completely shatter a throw out bearing that would be the real only cause of it to not let you get it into gear. Your going to have to drop the tranny if you can't find anything wrong with the lines. A few buddies a jack and food drink of choice and a lot of fun ahead of you.
