My Dana 44 Gears

Just changed the oil in my rear diff and noticed some gears that grabbed my attention. Can anyone elaborate on these rough looking areas? IS this normal? Cant say that I noticed any metal in the bottom of the diff and the rest drop down the oil pan drain.

If I'm looking at the pictures right, then no, broken teeth are not normal.

x2.. time to get some new one's in there.. how do the ring and pinion look? Might also want to check the carrier over for cracks as well.

Those are your differential's spider gears and no that's not normal. The good news is that they are inexpensive to buy and simple to replace. They don't need to be set up like the ring & pinion gears do. You might even find some cheap but good replacement spider gears at a 4x4 shop that removed them to install a locker.

Or replace them with a lunchbox locker like the Powertrax No-Slip which is relatively well behaved on the street and awesome offroad.
