My dash and gauge lights do not work!

I have a custom illuminated gauge cluster that used to work fine. One day it stopped working but the gauge arms still lit up(custom gauge cluster had a loose ground). But ever since I unplugged the headlight switch from the 9 pin female connector only the main dome light will come on when the headlight knob is turned all the way to the left. The custom gauge cluster now wont turn on even when grounded. The main reason for unplugging the headlight switch is because I found that the female connector on the wiring harness had melted in one spot. I checked all the fuses, they were fine. Basically I plugged everything back in and now the dash, shifter lights, and driving lights wont turn on when I pull the plunger for the lights. The only thing that works is the dome light. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Well the exposed wires prolly started your problem. ALWAYS use some kind of butt connector or elec tape or something.
It looks like something grounded out and fried the line. Prolly lucky you didnt have a fire.
