My TJ doesn't like 2nd gear...

and it's not crazy about reverse either.

It grinds a little when shifting into 2nd and sometimes, pops out of grear. It also is sometimes stubborn about going into reverse.

I read, in other threads, that it could be motor/tranny mounts or clearance problems(?)
If so, how would I check?
If it's clearance problems, how can I fix it?

Thanks

Yes, a 3-4 inch lift with 33s. Sorry, I forgot to mention that.

You might have to make some adjustments to your shifter or where the shifter is hitting on the opening in the floor. Does it go into 4Lo? I just put a 4inch on mine and I'm having the same problem.
http://www.roughcountry.com/install/668S.pdf Check out the section about the floor pan modification. I think its on the last page.

Yes, it goes into 4Lo without any trouble.

Wow, the roughcountry site has a lot of great info. Thank you, Hank!

No problem, I'll be doing the same thing to mine on Thursday and will let you know how it turns out. I have to adjust my 4wd shifter also to get it to go into 4LO. Good luck.

Did You Install A Transfer Case Drop? If You Did You Will Need To Pull The Shifter Out And Heat It Up And Bend It Forward A Little.

I had the problem with mine after puttin the lifts on. But i replaced the shifter with a B&M short throw shifter....dont have any issues at all because the shifting motion is very little. And no other modifications to the truck necessary.

The lift was on my jeep when I got it so I don't know what all has been done to it. I'm learning as I go. Thank you for the tip.

Good luck, Hank.

Thanks, Mudweiser. I'm on a budget so more options are always good.
