need a new softop...advice please

Well my soft top is in crappy condition, the back window has been nearly impossible to take in and out since last summer and today the zipper snapped in half and fell off. Besides I hate the color of the top anyway. So I guess I'm looking to pull the trigger and get a new top. All my hardware is good so I'm thinking about a sailcloth replace a top with tinted windows. I really don't want to spend $600 for a piece of fabric but I really don't have a choice I guess. I checked craigslist and there's nothing around I'm interested in. So my questions are, where is the best place to order a black replace a top from or can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative? I know Viking sold the fastback top to another company but is it still the same top? I could think of 100 ways to better spend $600 but we get a lot of rain up here and I need something soon!

Just remember... you get what you pay for.
You buy a cheap top, and it's going to fail you sooner than a quality top will.

Maybe a good used take off would be the answer for you.

Or, there is good old Ebay.
97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ Sailcloth Soft Top Black Diamond : eBay Motors (item 190343202539 end time May-17-10 16:33:24 PDT)
I realize the windows aren't tinted, but it's not $600 either.

This one has tinted windows:

Yea, I've learned that lesson with many things in life that's why I was thinking about a bestop sailcloth. The ses\cond top you posted is nice but I have an 06 and that's for an 02. I was also considering the viking top but they recently sold it to another company and now I'm worried about quality etc...

Rampage licensed the design of the Trek top from Viking. JCWhitney has them for around $325. Google replace a tops and you should find some different places that have the Bestop skins. I hear Quadratec is probably the most $$. As far as the Trek tops go, the Rampage tops currently have lighter weight material and windows, but the design is the same and the quality is pretty good from what I've read.

I just saw a post somewhere that someone wants to trade a Viking for a hard top. You don't happen to have a hard top laying around anywhere?

I love my Bestop Trektop. It's easy to take on and off, and has a great unique look. I have random people coming up to me, just to comment on how great it looks.
One of the best mods I've done for my Jeep.

That might be me.
I love my Viking and the rampage appears to be of decent quality. The rampages windows look kinda thin to me but I have the viking sail cloth version that I'm comparing to.

If I could get my hands on a hard top I'd sell it. As for now I can't sell it out right or I'd be getting wet (rain). I sold my factory top when I put this one on.

Cool. I feel your pain. My factory top was ratty and I had bought my Viking when it was snowing. I had to wait for about two months for a nice day to put it on. Good luck.

Make sure you google the part numbers you decide on.

I just bought tinted windows for my Bestop on amazon for $154 w/ free shipping when everyone else was $190 +
