Need Advice Please on Replacing Evap Core!!

I'm gonna be replacing the Evaporator Core in my 98' Wrangler this Tuesday and I'm wondering if there is any special tools I'll need or anything else down there that I should go ahead and replace since I'm gonna have the whole dash out??

I read a thread a while back that a guy made when he did this, and he had pics but I can't find it, yes i tried the search. Anyone have experience doing this or know of a write up on this job??

Thanks in advance for the feedback!!!

I have not done it on a TJ but an XJ and ZJ require the total removal of the dash board, takes about 8 hours start to finish. Have a couple of dozen zip lock bags, digital camera and magic marker. Put all the associated parts in each bag and label them.
I would also replace the heater core while I had it all apart also check the defroster/heat flapper valve. They are a failure item on 97 thru 99 TJ's and the part only costs a couple of bucks but the labor is a killer.
I would also suggest you spend the $100 for a factory service manual set, they will pay for themselves with the first couple of jobs you do on it.

What about certain tools to disconnect the hoses. Is there anything specific I should have before I start the job?? I'll be starting in the morning and have no way to go back to the parts store til my wife gets off work, so I wanna have everything I need when I start.

As of now, I'm replacing the Evap Core and Heater Core. Anything else???

You are going to need one of those ac disconnect tools, or have the shop drain the system before you start and ask them nicely to pull the two hoses that go thru the firewall for you, takes 30 seconds or so. I can't think of anything else. Now this is a TJ forum but this is a common problem on 97+ XJ's and almost all year ZJ's. Head over to www.naxja.org and do a search on evap replacement, one of the guys over there has a pic step by step posting and the TJ and XJ dashes are almost duplicates of each other so he might have some fine points I don't remember.
