Replaced the engine in my Jeep with one from an engine seller that I will leave unnamed at this time. The engine runs very well, but it never builds peak oil pressure (tops out between 45 and 50 psi at cold startup). As the engine warms the pressure drops off to near zero after 25-30 minutes of run time. Oddly, the engine does not knock or peck as it runs. A mechanical gauge has confirmed this to be true. I am currently involved in the warranty process with the provider, but I'm looking at the possibility of taking somewhat less of my money back and keeping the engine, but need some direction in zeroing in on the cause of the poor oil pressure. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I've seen something similar once and it turned out to be a cracked crankshaft.
As things warmed up the pressure dropped, that is right up until it became a two part crank.
It could be several different places but somewhere you have a leak in the system that opens up as the temp rises.
Anything from improperly sized bearings to a faulty oil pump.
Good luck .......but I'd be leery of what you'll find.

recycled engine=what weight oil are you using? might try a heavy weight oil. is this engine one of the ones that have crappy oil pumps? I gave LKQ $1000 bucks for my 2.5 with 112K and am happy with it. hope you resolve your issue. good luck.
