Need help asap

I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler with the 4.0. As I was coming home from work today I noticed that when I apply the brakes the mileage gauge on the odometer DIMMs and so does the radio. I checked to see if my brake lights bulbs are burnt out but they are not. I also noticed that my turn signals are now lighting up when I hit the brakes. I have not done any aftermarket wiring or whatnot. Please help!!!
Confused...

hey Rob...

do you have access to a wiring diagram?

I don't remember anything specific like your problem, but if I can see the wiring diagram I can get you fixed

My guess is a high amperage draw when you complete the brake light circuit likely a fault within your turn signal switch.

You know, you also might want to check your third brake light wires/contacts for a grounded hairs/ wire.

I keep reading about a fault in the switch. Its fairly new itself- but from autozone...will check the third brake light wires- but why the eff do the side marker lights go on when i hit the brakes

Sounds like you have a brake light socket shorted out to the marker lights.I would inspect both.

If you think it could be your autozone switch you can get OEM ones from neons in junkyards. It is connected to the brakes somehow. If mine don't return to complete center my brake light won't work.

If you're talking about your front side marker lights, they are double filiment with one being the turn signal, both ts and side marker are grounded through the bulb in the front fender.

Make sure all your grounds are good. Remove the bolts in the tail lights and make sure they are clean and tight, and check the grounds right behind both headlights (under the hood)

alright ... sorry for the delay... day job stuff

next step ...
disconnect the brake pedal switch
depress the brake pedal and see if the concern is dupicated

if not...
suspect bad switch or bad ground

Sounds almost like a back feed due to open or poor ground in the lighting circuit
Start by un plugging things that are effected one at a time also you can pull fuses one at a time and isolate that circuit than find what's in that circuit plug fuse back in than unplug stuff one at a time see if you can isolate you can also ground stuff manually as you go along
Hope u can find it

Changed switch. Same symptoms. Removed side marker light bulb as it looked dim- switched with passenger side...no symptoms anymore...going to replace the relay for the hazards just to be sure...replaced the side light bulbs as well...
