Exclamation Need help quick! Temp issue.

I started driving and the temp warms up slowly like usual, but the needle goes up to the right side of the '0' in 210. Then redlines. I turned off the Jeep, let it sit for 2 minutes and restarted. The temp needle stayed at the right side of the '0' in 210 the rest of the way home.

There are no leaks. I have no loss of fluid, reservoir tank is full.

Ideas please.

I thought about that. It is about 3 years old as is the radiator.

I did burp it, but still have the issue.

I do have a new Stant thermo that I drilled a hole in ready to be installed. I just didn't want to start trying one thing and have it not fix it. I'd rather do it right the first time and not tear it apart again and again.

Ok. Changed the thermostat and even the temp sensor along with the housing. Old thermostat didn't have bleed hole, but I drilled one in the new one in just installed.

Still getting a redline temp when idling. Doesn't happen right away but does happen. Fan clutch was installed in Oct and is still good.

However I did notice that it's not throwing hot air. The top heater hose from the Thermo is hot, but the bottom hose from the water pump is not.

Ideas from here?

Also since I drilled a bleed hole, do I still need to burp the system?

Is bottom hose collapsing? Seen several posts recently that this has been an issue.

Not to my knowledge. I looked at it right after I revved it past 3k RPMs and also checked it right after I shut down the Jeep. It was firm then.

Drove it a little today, temp started going up VERY slow. Then when it was about 150ish the needle moved visibly faster past 210 to the right of the '0'. It hovers there and then jumps to the beginning of the redline. I pulled over and sat for a minute then continued and the temp fell to the right of '0' again. It moved to beginning of redline and then about 10 seconds later fell back to the right of '0'. No leaks, reservoir is full and the heater throws heat.

Any help or ideas please? I'm desperate. It's my daily driver and I need it ASAP.

Had the identical issue with mine and it ended up being the water pump. Hope that fixes it for you.

I had this problem, I replaced my water pump and fan clutch both at the sand time and haven't had a problem since.

Replaced water pump and refilled antifreeze. Idled for 20 mins without temp going over 210. I'm about to road test it.
I also noticed 4 small bolts that sit below the water pump and just above the crank shaft pulley were loose to the point that I could hand tighten them. So I went ahead and hand tightened them as well as cleaned up some gunk that was around the area.

I recently noticed the same issue when replacing a water pump. Several timing cover screws were on the verge of falling out.

Fixed!!!! Took a test drive and pushed it up to 65 mph where I was and needle never passed 210. When I got home, I let it idle for 10 mins before shutting off and still 210.

Thanks for all the input.
