Need help with an engine upgrade

I need some serious help to anyone who can offer some answers. I have a 99 TJ with the 2.5L engine. Its grossly under-powered, especially since the previous owner put 33" tires on it and never re-geared it. So, I am looking for an inline V6 motor. I can get a good rebuild off Jasper Engines but they dont supply the computers. Can anyone tell me if the current computer for the 2.5L can be programmed for the 4.0L?

I would be interested in knowing if you ever come across one.

If you have the AX5 manually tranny, I would just spend the $1200 to get the axles regeared to 4.88 ratio and leave the engine alone. But if you insist on a conversion, they are not simple and here is a good place to start getting some information and considerations.

Oh, and if you do convert to the 4.0L, you will need alot more than the crate engine...you will need tranny, drivelines, and a slew of other things. Cheaper just to buy a TJ with 4.0L.

I would if I didnt drive it so much. But I am also wanting better gas mileage and the V6 will give me that since the 2.5L uses everything it has to get that baby moving. I will put the Dana 44 on it at a later time. I just need an inline V6 with the computer or ECU codes for it in the mean time

Inline 6 or V6...pick one. Again, regearing your axles will improve you gas milage. Spending ~$5000 on a conversion is not a great ROI for the sake of improving gas milage.

But research diesel conversions...they are probably the only that is going to see a long term MPG return. But again, far from a simple plug-n-play conversion.

For fuel milage, go with a diesel. It'll also give you the low end torque ya need.

I would recommend regearing though.... I've never done a swap but I know enough to stay away unless you have a ton of time and money.

Check Daveysjeeps.com for motors and computers.

Inline V6's? like this?

I think you'll find the GMC Twin-Six V12 a little outdated, hard to find, and too long for a TJ anyway.

No. I have a rebuilt inline V6 motor. I have no computer for that motor. The computer for my 2.5L is not capable of being programmed for the ECU codes for the V6 specs. I need the computer.

Put a 2jzgte in it .... You can get the motor for @ 2500.00 complete comes twin turbo'd ... need a mount kit and trans adapter but will make easy 400 whp completely stock. Might be a little more then you want to bite off but that motor kicks ass ... Stock internals hold 800 whp.
Cheers
