Exclamation Need input asap! Please!

a while back i posted a thread about an axle question. i got a yj axle with a detroit ez locker in it. got it taken apart and its a non c clip axle. i have been told by one of you that all tjs have c clips. with that being said are lockers useable with or without c clips?

All Dana 35c axles installed in Wranglers after 1990 have c-clips so yes the TJ's Dana 35c definitely has a c-clip. There are certainly lockers made for the current c-clip versions of the Dana 35c though I will never ever (!) recommend that a locker be installed into a stock Dana 35c. A stock Dana 35c axle just isn't strong enough to remain reliable once a locker is installed into it. The only way I'd install a locker into a Dana 35c is if it was part of a "Super 35" kit that also includes upgraded hardened 30 spline axleshafts to replace the factory 27 spline axleshafts that are the most commonly broken part of the Dana 35c once it is locked.

The below shows what happens when a Dana 35c's axle shaft breaks. The wheel and busted axleshaft will slide out of the housing and it's not easy to get it to stay put while you get off the trail so it can be replaced.

wow i definetly dont want that to happen! okay so next question may sound like a dumb one so bear with me, how can you tell if it has upgraded axles? this rear end i have (the extra) is complete hub to hub just wouldnt work as a bolt in because of the leaf spring mount rather than coil. should it have upgraded axles is it a possibility to swap the axle shafts over to the tj differential?

Non c-clip Dana 35c axleshafts are not interchangeable with c-clip axleshafts so they cannot be swapped. So even if that older Dana 35c axle had upgraded axleshafts, you couldn't install them into your TJ's axle housing.

You could always swap rears, get a set of coil spring perches welded on the YJ axle. If the gears are the same just swap them.

As for a locker in a 35, heck, I've seen 35c's come apart like that even without a locker...
