need pics of replacing 4wd indicator on TC

My 4wd light doesnt work. Im pretty sure the switch on transfer case is broken.
I see it hanging but cant find where it goes..
97 TJ 5 speed

Lucky you, I happen to have old t case on the bench. I have attached a pic. You can see the front yoke where your driveshaft hooks up to, then you see the lever and then the threaded hole is where the sensor goes. Drop the skid and lower your trans case a little and you will be able to get up to it.

does the skid plate have to come down ? Can I do it without removing or lowering the TC

You might be able to. Probably would be easier if you lowered it, way easier. You don't have to remove the TC.

Do you have to be careful about taking the bolts out of the tcase skid plate? I hear you can strip the nutcerts if you don't do it right

When my 4x4 dash light was out on my 97, I reached up under the dash (about where your left knee is) and gave wiring a wiggle - the light now works.
