Exclamation need some help

so this past weekend my wrangler started to act up on me a little bit. First off sometimes when i start my jeep the RPM's drop significantly to where it almost wants to cut off, then i noticed that there is some sort of black residue coming out of my tailpipe when that happens, but i dont think its oil. it doesnt smoke or smile like oil so thats why i dont think it is. and then I have an exhaust leak some where because when my top is up it is a strong smell and i have put the windows down so i dont pass out (and die). I lost the floor plugs when i put the herculiner in but even with those out i dont see how the smell can be that strong.

does anyone have any clue what could be going on?

sounds like you need to call a jeep exorcist! sorry man, I don't know what that could be, my brothers jeep has the same issues with the exhaust in the cab. If I had to guess though maybe a Cat problem.

yeah thats my guess also. get your catalytic converters checked out and find the exhaust leak. not sure what the black residue would be though...

The black residue is carbon, most likely. Fix the exhaust leak, and check out the cats and you'll likely solve all your problems. I think there is a pretty common problem with TJ cracking the manifold. IIrcc, you should replace it with a flexible do hickey....
