New Battery, but still won't crank.

Hey guys, I have a question. I had my Jeep in a bit of a hole, and when I pulled it out it wouldn't start. After some fiddling around with a new battery it started up. but when I turn it off it won't start back up again. I've had to push start it a few times to get it running. I'm assuming there's a short in it, and I haven't had the time to look at it in depth yet. but I plan to in the next few days depending on how busy I am... Anyway, any ideas would be much appreciated. Also a Schematic for the Jeep would be very helpful so I can get her back to her former glory...Thanks!!

Starter or wires going to the starter. If it runs by push starting, your ECU's still getting power.

Makes perfect sense. I'm sure it's something simple caused by the water that got kicked up by the fan while it was in the hole... Yeah everything works perfectly once it's running. (Radio, AC, Power Steering/Brakes, etc.) Just won't crank.

Yup. Now just wait for the other problems... I buried my 98 in soupy mud, ended up having to replace a caliper, axle seal, radiator hose and ever since then I've had throw-out bearing chatter. I'm holding out to replace the entire clutch. No more mud holes for muah..

I had to replace the colum in a wrangler the other day due to the connector that connects the key part of the ign switch to the electrical part. It would come on but not start. If you turn the key to on and then try to start it you will notice the key doesn't turn very far after the on position if this is the problem. If its the starter then check the smaller wire going to the starter. If it lights a test light when someone else tries to start it but the starter doesn't do anything then the starter is bad. If the smaller wire doesn't light up in the start position then your problem is elsewhere. Also the clutch switch (on the inside of the firewall on clutch pedal assembly) could be the culprit. Good luck and hope this helps.

I'm interested in what your problem turned out to be?
