New guy Q's about front diff & exhaust

I've had the Rubi for 3 weeks now and gotta around to changing the oil and adjusting the loose e-brake cable. I noticed the front diff has oil leaking around the shaft area. She has 78k on her, and other than to test the 4x4, I haven't used it. Is this fairly normal? Sound like just a seal? And is it fairly easy to fix?

Also, the exhaust seems to have what I would classify as a lot of side to side play right from the manifold. I'd say it swings about an inch each side, but I don't hear or feel a leak.

And I also noticed oil around the pan. These things known for leaky gaskets?

Another thing I noted was the inner windshield seal doesn't fit the corners. Normal? Prolly not. My guess is it was replaced by a new guy and shorted the seal a few inches

thanks,

Butch

welcome to the addiction and congrats on your Rubi

Ok I have had my TJ Rubi now for 3 years.

The front diff oil leak is because of the inner seals. PITA to change. I bought a pair of tube seals for mine. These do 2 thing for you 1. Seals the tubes so no water gets into the front diff. 2. Allows you to add extra oil to the diff.

Exhaust.....I have no clue

They always seep around the oil pan. I just wash it off every once in a while.

Windshield.....I would venture that your guess is pretty good.

JEEP = just empty every pocket

Windshield thing. Happen to need her inspected, so went to a windshield replacement place that also does state inspections. After she passed with flying colors, I asked the guy about the seal. He said him and the other tech laughed at it cause they see it a lot on Jeeps. Its a XYG aftermarket windshield, the cheapest and worst on the market. He said that inner seal comes with the windshield and cause its cheap, shrinks over time, but not to worry, it won't leak. He did say to expect more cracked and chipped windshields with a Jeep than any other vehicle due to it being so flat. He said WHEN its time to replace this one to insist on the Mopar OEM. It is a much better design and better made. Oddly enough, he said its only $5-10 more than this crap one.

Sinbob, do you remember where you bought the tube seals from?

Thanks,

Butch

People are going to have negative things to say about the tube seals. They do what they are supposed to do and where we live it is a good idea.

You will want to make sure where your oil leak is from. If it is slight, you can wait it out and do both the RMS and oil pan when you can.

I would change fluid in the diff and inspect it. You may just want to research it a bit and Chang that seal right away or have it done since it is more difficult to keep an eye on the fluid.

I had the same windshield seal problem. The seal never leaked on mine.
