Od tranny issue

I previously posted about the error code P1698 (TCM NOT COMM W/ECM). With the OD engaged the transmission shifts hard and erratic when accelerating and shifts really hard down to first when stopping. I turned the OD off and the trans acts normally...I was wondering if this could be an issue with the OD??
2004 Sport 4.0/3spd auto OD trans.

Has it done this since you have had the Jeep or just start? The reason I ask is mine does the same thing but I know mine is from getting water in it.Very erratic shift pattern and when it shifts down into first on its own it does so really hard.I shift it down manually most of the time and it does ok but sometimes it will not go down into first it stays in second unless it is done by hand but other than that your symptoms sound very similar.I know mine was fine until I got swallowed by a rather large water hole. Here is that post http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/muddy-water-23562.html

you have a relay for your TCM make sure its not bad. I had one go out on my 97 ram i use to have and i swapped it with another relay and all worked fine.

there should also be a fuse for a brake shift interlock solenoid.

To answer slf's ?? My jeep shifted fine then this summer I put in E3 spark plugs and got an error mssg P0303..misfire on #3 cylinder...I replaced the E3's with champions and no issues until recently when the tranny started acting up...the dealership told me I needed a new ECM and possibly TCM but I did research (downloaded the shop repair manual) and realized that I do not own a $3000 DRBIII code reader....this really sounds electrical to me...and by the way the trans started shifting weird with the OD turned off...argggghhh!!
