oil change special...opinions

I'm pretty anal about changing my oil, I always use mobil 1 oil and either a purlator or mobile 1 filter. Auto store is having a special right now on 5 quarts valvoline fully synthetic and a K&N oil filter for $26. The filter alone is $14 and the oil is over $7 a quart so $26 is an outstanding deal. I'm not worried about the oil I'm sure valvoline synthetic is a good oil (right?) but I'm a little sceptical about the K&N filter, Considering how crappy a job there intakes do at filtering.....what's the consensus on the K&N oil filter? Is it worth it or should I spend the extra money to get mobil 1 and a purlator? Thanks for the input guys!

Save your money

A K&N filter is the same thing as a Mobile 1 filter but 14$

You can get a 5$ Wix/Napa filter that will work just as good or better.

Here's a good website for info about filters:

X2 on the Wix or NAPA filter, with the AC-Delco Duraguard or Purolator PureOne being just as good (and my two personal favorites).

K&N's oil filter is fine but it is WAY WAY WAY (ridiculously) overpriced.
When you have a choice, buy American.

Agreed... K&N is definitely overpriced but it's not a bad filter just expensive if thats whats included than lucky you... 26$ for valvoline synthetic and a K&N is a great deal. at 7.50 a qt for valvoline syn and 14$ for a filter that's $51.50, $26 is a bang up deal I wouldn't think twice about doing that.

I use oem oil filters because I get them wholesale and good regular oil. Change then every 3k and all me vehicles run 200k w/o any failures. Clean oil is the only way to go.

Is it OK to switch to Valvoline if I have always put Mobil 1 in there or should I always use the same oil?
