Oil gauge question

So I went to the store today and noticed the oil gauge was on 80. Usually it's right in the middle at 40. After I got back home, I let the jeep cool down and checked the oil level. It read fine. Any ideas on why the gauge is reading so high?

I would replace the sending switch. Mine dropped to zero this summer and that's all it was.
