I need help because every time I look at my 1998 wrangler there is a puddle of oil sitting underneath it. The oil Guage is a little above zero. Need help asap. Thanks
First, check that your oil filter isn't loose. Then it helps to de-grease your engine, oil pan, tranny, and xfercase. Cleaning it will help identify where the leak is coming from.
Also check the bolts on the valve cover and re-torque them. A loose valve cover (or bad valve cover gasket) is a common source for an oil leak.
Your "oil gauge" isn't an oil level gauge, it is only there to show the oil pressure. The only way to know the engine's oil level is to check it with the dip stick.
Oil leak could be from electrical connection on oil sending unit also. Like stated before check your valve cover. Check the back of the motor for oil also if valve cover isn't leaking. Could be rear main seal, or a cam freeze plug rusted through. Also check the front main. If it still reads zero after replacing sending unit, chances are you spun you crank and rod bearings. Which sucks majorly but will explain tears in the seals. Oil pump is also another culprit. Stay away from fram oil filters. They have a valve that will collapse and give false or negative oil reading. Wix is the better brand. I use wix oil filters on everything I own and work on.
How bad of a leak is it? If it's just a few drops then I'd be willing to bet it's your rear main seal leaking and that's extremely common on the 4.0L
