oil level weird question??? check engine light?

so i just put a center console in my tj. it not bolted in so i didnt kno the truck was in drive 2 when i ws on the highway. i was doing about 70 with 4,000 rpms. the check engine like came on. i felt it was weird so i checked the shifter and was like WTF! so i put it in the nomral drive gear. the oil gauge was fluxing up and down. its like when i give it gas it goes up to the middle normal, than when i let off is goes down to 1/4 full. it just bounces around. i just the oil. well trans and engine oil. both sem to look fine.

just got the wrangler a month ago. im a dumbass!

any ideas?? thanks

The oil gauge will go up and down with the engine rpm. It is a pressure gauge, NOT volume! It shouldn't have hurt anything going down the road in D2, just don't make a habit out of it!

I don't have an automatic, but with my 5 spd, the tach rarely sees anything over 2800 rpm. Drive it like you have an egg on the gas pedtal.

Something caused a problem...otherwise there wouldn't be a check engine light. You may have started overheating if you were running 70mph @ 4,000 RPMs for very long...

If your gauge is moving around a lot more than normal, your oil pressure sending unit may be on its way out. I'd pull the codes and see what that CEL says first though.
