Oil Pressure

I have a 2002 sport with 46k on it. Just changed the oil with 5w-30 for the winter and got the right oil filter but for some reason whenever I drive it the oil pressure will go from the resting 40 (or 45) to 60. Then when I'm coasting or at a light it will go back down to 40 (or 45). Anybody know what the problem is? Thanks for the tips in advance.

Seen It Before

I've had three Jeeps and each of them have done that at some time or another. Even had a sending unit changed one time and it did it on the way home from the dealer. Don't think it's much to be concerned about unless it drops below 40 +/- and stays there.

My 2000 does the same thing. Unless you are experiencing other problems, loss of power, choked sound from the exhaust, then I really wouldn't worry about it too much. It's pretty normal.

you really don't want to be running to high of a pressure for an extended period of time, might end up spinning a bearing. But yea, all of my jeeps have done that at one time or another.. but when the pressure reading on my 92 XJ dropped I shut the thing down and poped the hood, noticed a big leak forming. Fired her up and looked under the hood to see oil squirting out the sending unit. $20 later and its all fixed... but just keep an eye on it.
