OK, so my oil pressure gauge has been acting up and I have no idea what is causing it. First of all, the oil level is normal and clean and the Jeep receives regular maintenance in all ways. The problem is this, when you start the Jeep everything starts up fine but the "check gauges" light comes up. The oil pressure gauge doesn't register anything. If I rev the engine the "check gauges" light goes off and the oil pressure gauge goes up but to a very low pressure reading. I have pointed it out to a mechanic and they said everything with the engine is working fine. This makes me think its the sending unit but have no idea where it is or what to check. Any suggestions on what to do to fix it or trouble shoot it? Anyone have the same problem?
So I took a look at the sending unit last night and the unit looks brand new. PO may have replaced it and not said anything. I took the wire connector off and attempted to take the unit off but couldn't get a wrench on the sending unit. Didn't have much time to mess with it so i just reconnected the wire connector. Just for giggles I started up the Jeep to see if just messing with the connector fix my problem and sure enough the oil pressure gauge goes right up and there is no appearance of the "check gauge" light. YA!! At idle I have about 10-13 and at about 2000 rpm I have between 20-30. I did some research and that sounds normal.
But.... there is always a but, on my way to work this morning the oil pressure gauge went back to reading 10 or below at 2000 rpm. The engine was running fine and there was nothing abnormal about my drive.
Question is, even tho the sending unit could be newer could it still go bad that quick?
The sender could look brand-new and still be bad if it was a cheapy from China as Atthehop talked about above. I use a lot of aftermarket parts on my TJ but for sensors and other critical parts, I try to use nothing but OE Mopar replacements. I replaced my son's oil pressure sender 3X on a Sunday before I finally got one from Autozone that worked properly. One even read backwards. That wouldn't have happened if it had been any other day of the week when I could have instead picked up a sender from the dealer.

Not what I wanted to hear but at least it is a inexpensive part none the less. Any tips on getting the old sensor out? Tried an adjustable wrench and I just couldn't get the wrench in a good position to get a grip on it.
