Oil Pressure (Gauge) Problem

Hi all, new to the forum. I recently changed the oil in my '99 TJ I bought a couple months ago for the first time. I put it Mobil 1 10W-30 High Mileage and a Fram filter. Before the change the pressure would always be at 40-60 psi. Since the change it has gradually gone down from right around 40, then 20-40 and today, while driving it went to 0 at idle and barely moves up when on the gas. Oil is full and engine temp is fine and hasn't changed so I assume it may be the gauge or pressure sending unit but I really don't know. Has anyone experienced the same thing?

I'm having the same problem. Mine is a 2001 wrangler sport. use Mobile 1, and have never had an issue before this past week. Changed the oil last night, and had the same problem. I'm going to try changing out the oil pressure sensor (sending unit). Any advice would be appreciated.

My oil sending unit went out on my out of the driveway recently. If there are no noises in the engine then replace the sender. Simple job and not very expensive. If there are noises (valve tap/knocking) your may have an oil pump problem.

Hi,
I am the Technical Manager at FRAM, also own a repair shop. I have had many Jeeps in my shop that needed the sending unit replaced. I use a el cheapo mechanical guage to check the real pressure first though just to be sure. I recently had a 2002 GC with a 4.0 that had similar symtoms, checking with a guage did find low pressure. I started working on it, removed the oil pan thinking I was going to have to inspect bearings or replace the oil pump. It was actually the screen pickup going to the oil pump was kind of sludged up. I cleaned it off and pressure returned to normal.
