On board Air - Please Help

I have purchase a Viair 450 on board air system - which includes 2 1/2 gallon air tank - on advice from this forum - I located the air tank on the drivers side between the frame rail and the transfer case. the nose of the air tank goes just under the transfer case skid plate. My question is that the rest of the tank is exposed under the jeep. It would seem if I were to hit some big rocks - I could potentially destroy the tank . The tank sits opposite of the catalitic converter and sits higher than the Cat - so I guess I can take solice in the fact that I have just as much chance of destroying my cat or the rear drive line as the air tank - just seems so exposed sitting where it is - can someone who has installed and onboard air tank on a wrangler or wrangler unlimited give me some advice or reasurrance as to my current location. The compressor is mounted under the hood on the drivers side. I took out the plate that was there and made a special mounting for the compressor - so I think that will work. Appreciate any help - Thanks Curt

you shouldnt worry about it much. those tanks are really strong. just to show how thick they are they can hold 1000's of psi like say run nitrogen in em- just like my paintball tank its a 3000. but ive had 2 5 gallons and they seemed pretty strong but they were on a street truck so i never hit any trails to test em either.

3riversjeep I have the same size tank in the same local as yours. It's been there for about a year. I haven't dropped onto any rocks with it, but have heard rocks (not gravel size, larger) hit it. No problems so far. I would just make sure everything stays tight, and that the hose from the compressor isn't rubbing on anything.
