So I have been searching threads for a month or more and still find answers are answered and not so answered and so on and so forth it oadaso. So I have 2006 Rubicon 4 inch sus lift 2 body 1 motor and since motor lift is done the trans is put back up and 35 inch tires . I get a vibration only in 4wd and when accelerating only in 4wd when I put it out the vib is gone . The pinion angles do not look correct . The read looks ok but I will measure tomorrow , but the front appears to be in a straight line . The two jeeps I looked today with same lift they are not also they both had the drop trans and they both had control arms one had adjustable and the other not . Both of the front drive shafts looked like the axle point down slightly more and mine pointed straight towards the transfer case . This one is my jeep
and this jeep is the angle of my friends
not sure if you can tell in the photos . but they are slightly different angle .
now what do i do ?
new adjustable controls? do i need upper and lower ? or just lowers ?
keep in mind the axle the driveshaft are only one year old . but that does mine something is not wrong with them either . so i need help thank you
also with my set up what should the angles look like do you have photos and/or to the proper threads ? i looked a lot and keep running around
Both of those pictures are front axles. Are you having drive line vibes?? The pinion angles look pretty good on both. The front axle is a little more forgiving since it is much longer (shallow angle). Changing the front pinion angle also changes your front caster, so unless you are experiencing driveline vibes from the front pinion angle, leave it alone as long as alignment numbers are good.
the alignment angles are
front left -1.1camber
3.4 cast
.16 toe
11.1 sai not sure what that is yet
10.1 angle
front right -0.6 camber
4.3 cast
.15toe
11.0 sai
10.4 angle
front cross 0.6 camber
0.9 caster
0.2 sai
.31 toe
the first photo is my jeep the second is a friends jeep it looks in person at least that the second one my friends jeep his axle points down more than mine he does have the drop trans and i do not when i put it back up could that cause it ? and would i need adjustable arms to correct the vibe
I noticed you said you said only vibrates only when in 4 WD. Your front prop will always rotate whether in 4 or 2 WD, so surely you would get vibes all the time? The FSM says adjust front caster over pinion angle and yours looks OK in my opinion. Could it be something wrong with the transfer case?
I asked the same question . i thought it should vibe all the time but only when i accelerate and only in 4wd . could it be a u joint or something else?
the reason why i think it is the drive shaft angle is i did not have vibes before i lifted the tran case back up and eliminated the drop . so i need figure out how to corrected this what shall i do?
New vibes after removing a transfer case drop indicate the rear driveshaft's angles are now excessive. That's where I'd focus, not at the front driveshaft.
ok thanks you i will check the angles and report back here in a few but i only get it when it 4wd never any other time could it still be the rear shaft?
Usually have to do less then stock caster to keep vibes away with pinion angle
Typically you would increase caster till you get vibes or reach 1 less than stocky then if vibes reduce caster till vibes go away plus just a hair more less caster
If you had manual hubs so that front driveshaft did not spin I'm 2wd you could have a more pleasant caster without highway vibes
what does the red mean some are green does it mean that the caster in the red just needs to be more closer to the 6 mark? or does it need to move into green
well have fixed my vibes and will explain in detail with photos later today really easy fix thanks for all who have help with intel not this . a lot of people have this problem and can be a lot of things but i was able to keep my transfer case up and such
ok so heres what i did , since the front end is where i was getting the vibes from and only in 4wd does mean its not coming from the back however . i did get rid of the vibes by adjusting the caster angle on both sides. The driver side was at 25inches and the passenger was at 25.5/8inches i adjusted them both too 25.3/16 inches eliminated the vibes completely . heres so photos
i measured from the c
to the body mount on both sides i did this and adjusted the bolt till they matched
marked on the bolts and wrote the measurement down on both
i do have lower control arms coming and upper rears and the new drive shaft coming for the rear
now here is what i have for the rear drive shaft measurements so far
this is 10 degrees on the bottom
pumpkin is 14.5
the transfer out in 6.5
driveshaft is 13
although i do have the double cardan shaft coming what is this suppose to beat i know the case out put and the diff output is to be the same correct ?and when i get the new shaft it it needs to be pointing at the case correct?
The first drawing is how your pinion angle should look like now. The second drawing is how it needs to look after the CV driveshaft has been installed.
awesome yes i saw your post or sticky on this somewhere thank you so much i get the control arms and drive shaft this week . also i want to replace the u joints in the front shaft are they all the same or no ? because i am not sure if the front is factory i had it replaced by my friends garage and they said they put in a better one . but i need a joint in the back should i replace all of them? i would think so .
Factory driveshafts normally have a rubber boot over the slip joint but that doesn't mean the one in the photo isn't stock... it's just impossible to tell without a closer look.
So far as parts for 2005-6 Rubicons (2003-2004 are different) go, this should help:
i thank you so much jerry you are a big help . i took the shaft off when i aligned it i started get a weird sound . i looked and the u joint was very loose so that could have been the vibe i replaced the joints they ended up being 5-212x and 5-213 x two of these and 211179x is that a stock shaft i had the axle and the shaft replace but my friend said they bought one from a drive shaft place in town not the dealer . i will put the shaft it when the rear shaft and the control arms arrive on friday .
wow the difference with adjustable controls arms compared to factory arms the ride is so much smoother no vibes great ride
