It depends, my inside door handle would not open the door and once I took the panel off the retainer that held the rod on was broken. Had to get the complete inside release assemble but it only cost me 14 dollars. In hte meantime I just used a thin wire and tied it on and it has been working fine. Just be careful pulling the interior door panel becaust the retainer clips break easily. I worked in a dealer many years ago and have the tool to pop the special clips out. You can do it with a screwdriver but be careful.

Buy extra clips before you take the door off...it takes forever if you are worried about breaking them, and you will inevitably break one...

My pass side ext door handle is really hard to use (have to pull real hard). I have no idea why, and have been too lazy to investigate further...

Mine did that you can adjust how far you have to pull the handle in side the door. There is a little metal rod you can rebend to fix that. And to the OP, the plastic clips on yours that hold the rod may have broken or the rod itself came off. Easy fix once you are in the door.

Read this...I wrote it to help you folks out with swapping them out. There's a little pin that pops the latch and sometimes that pin bends and instead of popping the latch, it just slips right overtop the catch it's sposed to engage. I had that problem too...which is what sparked me to do the write-up...I had to tear my door apart and remove the handle numerous times. So I took pics one of those times.
