Overdrive question

i have an '04 with the auto tranny and i usually disable overdrive when i get on the highway because it just doesn't have enough acceleration with it on. my question is, if i take a long road trip and have the overdrive off the whole time, does that affect anything negatively other than gas mileage?

Keeps the engine revs higher which means worse gas milage and it means the engine is running faster which means it might last 195,000 miles instead of 200,000.
How much does the overdrive button drop the revs?

at highway speeds with overdrive OFF it is around 3000+ rpms, with overdrive ON it is about 2000 rpms

i have experimented turning it on and off during highway speeds and there is a huge jump in RPMs when i do this. does this hurt the engine? now when i turn it off and on it's only when i'm going below 30 mph. if i know i'm going on the hwy then i just turn it off when i start my jeep.

I'd regear to a slightly lower axle ratio (like 4.10 if you are still running 30" tires) which will result in highway RPMs between what you're getting with and without Overdrive.

i like that i have only 2000 RPM @ 65 MPH. the RPM is high enough to hold the speed and low enough to give me a good mileage.
