Oxygen sensor locations

I have a 2001 Wrangler 4.0 automatic and keep reading about oxygen sensors, front/rear and upstream/downstream. How many do I actually have and where are they located? I don't think I'm having any symptoms related to them so far but from what I've read it's probably just a matter of time.

Not sure in 2001 but there should be one after exhaust manifold, somewhere under hood(upstream) then a down stream at cat convertor. Maybe someone else will chime in w same year.

That's a good start. The next time I'm under there I'll have some idea where to look, that is assuming I know what I'm looking for. Thanks.

2001 TJ 4.0L have 4 o2 sensors. 2 upstreams and 2 downstreams. I just changed all of mine out to NTK(NGK's) a few months ago.

Not sure where u live gorve but if you only find two O2 sensors, don't go crazy. If I'm not mistaken, only the California versions (jeeps that are made to pass California emission)have four O2 sensors.

If it was 2.5L engine, then only 2 o2 sensors would be the case.

Changing all 4, were you having any particular problems or was this a maintenance item to avoid future problems just maybe at a time you didn't need any headaches?

Maintenance mostly. Alot on my jeep hasn't been done since i bought it last summer from the last two owners. Recently changed the spark plugs to NGK as well, made sure they were gapped at. 035 aswell. Noticed a difference in milage already but the O2's did need the change after visual inspection.
