Talking P0456 P0457 - Now How do I get the Check Engine Light off? :)

Hi All,

Last week I had the OBDII light pop on. Checked with a code scanner and found P0456 and 7 which Ended up being my darn gas cap. When I screwed it back on last time, the little plastic attachment that makes sure i dont lose the cap got caught in the threads as i screwed it on and i didnt notice. So i unscrewed the cap, put it back on properly. Its been a week - the code scanner (cheapie) I have is supposed to clear the codes, but it doesnt. Is there any other way? (Im assuming disconnect the battery?). I saw the info in the sticky saying I can reset the ECU - is that safe to do?

Adam

you can disconnect the battery for 30 secs or so and it should take the codes off and it is completely safe to do.

i've had some issues with some auto places clearing the code. some are like, we can't do it cause of some liability with the problem not being fixed, blah blah blah.....others have cleared it for me.

You can also just buy a code scanner if you tinker on your Jeep much at all - that way you won't have to drive all the way to autozone to get the codes read.
