Passenger side water leak

Hi

I own a 2005 TJ Sport. We had heavy rain last night and this morning when I was pulling out of my driveway water came POURING in from under the passenger side dash area. Probably at least a gallon of water. I have never had any kind of leak there before. I could also hear water sloshing around under the dash area.

Anyone seen this before??

Please help.

Check the drain under the cowel. It's most likely clogged and letting water back up under the cowel. The water then gets to come through your heater intake and pour on your floorboards.

I second the cowl, there is a tube that drains the water behind the motor, when its clogged it backs up into your blower. Also clean out your blower, go in through the resister hole so you don't burn that out aswell

Thanks for the tips. Looks like the drain is backed up. Having a hard time getting ti it behind the motor. Any advice on the best way to do it? Can I just pull the whole black drain and tube out?

Mine leaks from there only when parked flat. If I park it nose down I get no water. I think the drain is too high (its wide open) and all the water cannot drain out in a heavy rain and it backs up into the heater box. I Checked for a TSB but there isn't one.

If I had the time I would pull the cowl panel off and look inside but being lazy I park downhill in the driveway when I hear heavy rains are coming. It's just old age.

Pull the cowel off. Remove the wiper blades, then remove the couple screws just under the hood line by the hood gasket, and the cowel will lift up and out. It looks like you have to put the windshield down, but you don't. Then you can poke a fairly stiff wire through from the top. I used a gas welding rod when I did mine. I also pulled the cover off the heater intake and put some sillycone around the mating serfaces to help seal it up if the drain should ever clog again.

Hope that helps.
