So I have gone through pretty much every post on the internet regarding PCM issues and still have a few questions. Little background first. I am pretty sure the PCM is going out on my 2006 Wrangler Golden Eagle Edition with 70,000 miles. Last fall I started getting the hard shift from first two second but after doing that once or twice it ran fine until I let the Jeep sit of awhile. Over the winter the issue went away until a few weeks ago when it started doing it again. No other issues than just that hard shift at nearly 2K RPM from first to second. I'm 99.1% sure it's the PCM because after doing the "PCM reset" it runs great for a week or then goes back. I haven't pulled codes yet self-diagnostic gives a bus-60 response.
So my questions especially for those who have suffered this fate is:
Is there a timeline on when this thing will just go out? Or will it just go kaput one day?
Is it ok to drive in this condition? It is my daily driver but I don't want to put too my stress on my drivetrain.
If I do a reset every week or so will that do any harm or quicken the PCM's demise? Yes it's a pain but I don't mind.
Talked to the dealership the other day and in typical form they would not give me an exact price to replace but know I'm looking at a $637 part and another couple of hundred dollars in programming and labor for about $900 repair. Which I will gladly put in my Jeep but hoping I can do in another month or so due to the fact in the past six weeks I've replaced a fuel pump, new tires and battery. Plus I'm getting married next month so my finances are strapped to say the least.
Sorry for the long post just want to make sure to get the background out there. And thanks.
