My 05 X keeps showing code P2096 which is the one of the false codes covered by the warranty reflash TSB. When I turn the ignition on and wait 15 seconds the MIL flashes 10 times. The recall letter says this means the dealer has to reprogram. I called 3 dealers in the Milwaukee WI area and they're clueless. Does anyone know a dealer or better yet a certified garage that's done this work in the amilwaukee area? It's not that big of a deal to erase the code every couple hundred miles and I can still pass emissions the way it is but I'd still like to get it fixed.
I think you are referring to TSB 18-028-06. It is a TSB (technical service bulletin), not a recall. So I’m guessing it is not going to be no charge as a recall would be. The bulletin states it is “Labor Operation No: 18-19-06-24” the amount is 0.5 hrs. So give the dealer the TSB # & don’t let them charge more than ½ hour labor.
It is also possible, if not probable that you have an exhaust leak near the O2 sensor causing that code, which is a fuel trim issue. I think P2096 is the bank 1 sensor & P2098 is bank 2. Here is a link on that.
The flashing CEL indicates that it has not “readied” & there is a TSB (25-001-07) on that too. Here is a link on the repair done in the bulletin that you may want to do yourself.
Thanks for the info. I assumed because the letter states this is an emissions warranty extension that it'd be no charge but like you said it's not a recall so they'l probably charge. The service writer did say after looking it up that some wireing needed to be done along with the
reflash so it'd be a couple hours. Which probably also means $300. I'll leave it for now and maybe do the readiness wireing myself. Thanks again for the info and the repair link.
My wife's Jeep cant pass inspection due to the P2096 code. Ive done my best to check for exhaust leaks and made sure the 4 o2 sensors are plugged in. Before I replace any o2 sensors, what should my PCM be flashed to? I want to determine if my PCM has already been flashed to the correct file or not. I know it has been to the dealership for some sort of rewiring recall.
Thank you
Also, if you were throwing this code, what courses of action would you take to get the code turned off so that you can pass inspection?
Also, if the PCM needs to be flashed to a different file, is that something i should be paying for?
