Question PCSing to Louisiana. Long road trip for my jeep. Maintenance before I go?

Yo!

So I'm moving to NOLA on Wednesday. Gotta drive my 2001 TJ w/125k down to the bayous 1300k miles. My new residence. I figure there should be some maintenance to take care of before my trip. I'm not a junior mechanic at all. I'm doing the oil change on Monday, but aside from that I was hoping to consult ya'll to see if I might need anything.

Currently, it runs fine with the exception of having trouble changing gears for the first 5 minutes I drive it or so. It's an automatic. I don't know the history of it before about 10k miles ago so I don't know its fluid replacement timeline at all. Tires are pretty worn, but the spare is good. The last owner didn't do a 5 tire rotation.

Any advice at all is appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

Before you go, check your diff oil, engine oil, transfer case oil, and transmission oil to make sure all are full and look normal. Check tire PSI and adjust as necessary. I would do an oil and filter change in the transmission as well, it may help your shifting problem. Check your brake fluid and make sure its full.

That's about all I can think of, enjoy the drive!

By oil change in the tranny do you mean a flush? Is that too difficult to do myself? I've never done it before.

They have tore up elevated highways in the bayou areas of Louisiana. Worse highway I've seen next to the Alcan on the Canadian side of the Alaska border. Glad your spare is good.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for all your advice. I switched out my diff's, transfer case and engine oils. Tranny fluid was good and I think I'm ready to go on Wednesday. I'm heading to the Naval Support Center in the city of New Orleans, Algiers to be specific. Hopefully my trip runs smoothly! Thank ya'll for your support. Semper Fi.
