Pinion Seal

Need to replace my pinion seal. I went to the auto store and they said it's either a 7.59" or a 7.125"? not sure a bout the last one. Anyway does anyone know what size i need. I have an 01 tj sport dana 44 rear and dana 30 front. Thanks

Which axle is the seal for? The D30 or D44?

Since you're sourcing it locally and you have to pull the seal anyway...you could always pull it and take it up to the parts store you're sourcing it from and match it up. Or you could always measure it.

Not a bad idea. There are two different seals for the 30. One from late model and one from early. I can't remember the year breakout.

If you can find the SKS seal which is made by Chicago Rawhide who they purchased a couple years ago, that'd be good. An SKS (Chicago Rawhide) seal is a little more heavy duty and not as likely to be damaged during the installation process.

Best thing I've ever used for seal installs is a 6 to 8" piece of 4x4 post and drill a 1" or so hole in it about 2" deep or so. Slides right over the pinion and covers the seal so not to harm it during install.
