Ok I'm picking up my new steering box in the morning, so I tried to get started tonight so that I can just install the new one in the morning, but ugly off the get go the nut that holds the pitman alarm in is pretty tight, I can't remove it with a adjustable wrench, so I was wondering if anyone knows the size of it so that I can buy a socket to put in my impact gun. The biggest union is a 1 1/4 and that is to small, I borrowed a 1 5/16 but that seems to big so I'm taking it is metric, hope someone can answer this one for me thanks.
I used a 1 5/16 impact socket that is a 6 point and it worked good for me. I also had a 3/4 inch impact to help with that. Might not have been the answer you were after but it worked for me. Good luck.
32 mm 1/2 inch drive on an electric impact.
15 min. of map gas torch, and it finally came off.
buy a new pitman arm too for 36.00 from morris 4x4. don't bother struggling to get the old one off. your time is valuable.
when my new pitman arm comes, I will be doing that job myself. I started it this last weekend and after giving in to the pitman arm being seized on, I bought a new one for this coming weekend.
cheers!
Ok thanks. On the way to buy. Socket then! I'm gonna give it 15 minutes and if the pitman arm don't come off I buy a new one. Thanks again!
