I replaced my subwoofer with the Pyramid from Amazon and followed the directions precisely from a post i found. I had four wires on old speaker.Red, Black,Grey,Brown. I used Grey + and Black - per directions got the console all plugged and back in jeep and nothing. No sound at all. Any help will be greatly appreaciated. This is killing my old 62yr old bones contorting to remove and install console What wires would I use in a 04? I have it back out waiting for a reply.
My understanding is that not all the wiring ways work the same for every year. I would try switching them around until you get sound. Or, you could try this thread for info and insight. They had the same problem throughout the thread and resolved it.
the stock sub in my 05 was a dual voice coil... it took 2 positives and 2 negatives. this DIY suggests using the gray and black wires. those were both positives in my case. i used the red and black wires, not the gray and brown wires.
Thread #46 same 2003TJ as black/grey recommendation:Finally, sound outta the woofer. What finally worked was Brown to + and Balck to -. Tape up the red and gray wires and put them out of the way. Other than the pain in the butt this project was, everything sounds really good.
Assuming that you actually have power to your amp, here's a final perspective.
From Thread #57(Note:There is a wealth of information in that thread to resolving issues that you are having with the subwoofer. It won't hurt to sit down and read the entire thread.)
This has been a great write-up and educational as to replacing the factory speaker with a better than factory replacement. It is funny what others have experienced with wiring combo:
1. GCJoes, who tested several ways, said “I used the Gray + / Brown –
2. Another says “red and black wires”
3. And another “Finally, sound out of the woofer. What finally worked was Brown to + and Black to -. Tape up the red and gray wires and put them out of the way.”
4. Another “I went black + red - and some polyfil in the enclosure.”
5. Another “Gray to + for some, Black to + for some, and Brown to + for me.”
I guess I’ll try all until I get the correct combo before buttoning everything up.
Thanks guys, I actually found another website that had a pic of my set up and they used brown + grey - .:iamhappy::iamhappy: I pulled it back out and used those. All good now. Thanks again.
