Potental rod knock. I6 4.0 L 2001 TJ

Could've blown a rod in my 2001 TJ any suggestions on fixing, replacing rods, or just new engine all together? Access tips?

If your rod bearing is bad you will hear a loud tapping which greatly increases with engine RPM. You can access the bearing by dropping the oil pan.

[QUOTE="05redTJ;11815473"]If your rod bearing is bad you will hear a loud tapping which greatly increases with engine RPM. You can access the bearing by dropping the oil pan.

Those are the exact symptoms I'll check it out. Thanks.

Could you please advise of our results when known? I may have the same exact problem.

Thanks you. John

You would likely have a lot of metal fragments in the oil and maybe lower oil pressure. Check the oil for any signs of trouble.

No oil fragments in the oil. Still haven't had time to break into it and drop the oil pan due to working 40 hours a week. Pouring antifreeze out now though. Looks like it's coming from behind my fan? Any ideas on what it might be? Gasket of some sort?

Weep hole. Bad water pump.

Rent a free pressure test from orielys. You will track it down for $0 bucks before buying parts.

Behind the fan? towards the engine? Probably water pump if it's towards the front of the Jeep might be a radiator. Mine just blew the other night.

Replaced the water pump and the seal, and now it's pouring out from the same general area again. Right below the water pump? Any ideas left?

are you sure there wasn't a hole in the lower rad hose? or even worse a hole in the block?

If you blew a rod you will know for sure. There would be smoke pouring out your exhaust and horrible noises from the engine. There could be holes in the block too. Check oil for coolant, and the coolant for oil. Are you sure you scraped all the old gasket off from under the water pump? I can't really see coolant coming out of the crankshaft seal unless your block if full of coolant.
