Regearing to 4.88 is the only way to truly restore the power loss caused by the 33's, don't waste your $$$ on things like throttle body spacers, air intakes, K&N air filter, etc. which don't work.

When you have a choice, buy American.

Everyone will tell you these three things: Re-gear, Motor swap, or trade it in for one with the 4.0... These probably are the most cost efficient options, but you could try some of the smaller mods if that better fits your budget. I myself am in the same boat (2.5L, 5-speed, 33's) and planning on a re-gear down the road. You best bet may be to look at how you can clean up your engine (recent post "water in engine" which has turned into a seafoam debate) and look at doing a tune up of fluids, plugs, etc. This wont give you more power, but will hopefully get you closer to the stock power that thing had back in 99. Another option would be to lose the 33's for something smaller if its your DD. Then just keep the 33's for when you re-gear or want to go off-road.

Swap in a 4.0 throttle body, good for a little better throttle response and cheap to do.

If you come to a fork in the road take it.
